WHAT YOUR SKIN IS CRAVING
Stop wishing you had great skin and get it! Get the scoop on my current fave skin care line.
My journey with skin care started around February 2017. It was at this point I decided okay, I'm going to take better care of my skin. So with that I just started buying random products at the drugstore every other week and then realized "uhh this isn't working". So I decided to do some research and reading around products that would benefit my skin type: super oily, rough texture, large pores and sensitive.
My skin care routine became more tailored to my skin's concerns and at that point I was more content. I started using sunscreen by August 2017 and I saw a change in my skin. But it was a Vitamin C serum (that I inadvertently used incorrectly) that gave me a dermatitis around my eyes; that made me realize not all products would agree with my skin. So I kept things pretty simple with a face wash, scrub, sunscreen and moisturizer for months thereafter. That was until mid 2018 when adult acne hit me #thehorror...it is more real than you think. It was combination of factors, but mainly stress, that caused me to get acne that I've never before experienced. I then started using Differin and that helped significantly, but I felt like I could still get more out of the products I was using as my skin was still very oily, I had acne and I just wasn't happy.

My skin care revelation
A couple of my friends and coworkers were seeing a local dermatologist for their acne and they would often mention products from the ZO Skin Health line. This line was new to me but their skin was flawless so course I was intrigued. I did some research on the line and their products and the local distributor for the line, Dr Rachael Eckel who is the head cosmetic doctor at the Skin Health Institute (SHI). I would avidly follow her posts and look at before and after pictures of her patients who used a combination of the ZO Skin Health products and facial treatments, and I was stunned. I knew these products had to be spectacular because they were formulated by Dr Zein Obagi (world renowned, board certified dermatologist and inventor, educator and author).
At first I was hesitant to purchase the products because they are pricey but I eventually decided to give the products a try in October 2018. When I visited the SHI for the first time, I felt as if I was transported to skin care heaven! Such a gorgeous and aesthetically pleasing clinic with incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff...my fear of feeling overwhelmed about what products to use was gone. They fill out a skin care protocol for you based on your skin's concerns so that treatment is thereby effective. I was assisted in choosing my starter products and was told everything I needed to know about them. Now there's no turning back. My skin care obsession is now at an all time high, because for the first time, I'm using products that are giving actual results; from the very first use! #mindblown.

Products I'm using
I had purchased the Exfoliating cleanser, Exfoliating polish and Daily Sheer broad spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen. I eventually added on their Oil Control pads with 2% salicylic acid as a toner about one month later. These products (cleanser, exfoliator and toner) are part of the "Getting Skin Ready" regime which aims to restore vitality and overall function to the skin; thereby allowing products to better penetrate the skin and work more effectively.
I was the queen of makeup wipes and micellar water. While I thought I was helping my skin by religiously removing my makeup before bed, on starting a protocol with the SHI, they advised on avoiding any such products; as makeup wipes in particular do more harm than good to the skin. So when I started using the exfoliating cleanser, it was the bomb...completely removes a full face of makeup while leaving your skin glowing and hydrated afterward? Umm yes please! I immediately tossed my makeup wipes and micellar water!
Not to mention that baby smooth skin you get after using the exfoliating polish...hands down the best facial scrub I've ever used. The oil control pads are special, because after exfoliating your skin and then toning with them, be prepared for a stinging sensation. Strangely enough I don't mind it because I know they're working. My previous sunscreen would leave a white cast and wasn't the best when I used it under my makeup but the Daily Sheer sunscreen is exactly that...it's sheer! so it goes on clear and gives the skin a beautiful healthy glow.
I later on added another product in December 2018 as recommended for my skin by Dr Eckel, when I visited the SHI for their first ever flash sale. I was able to have a quick sit down with her and had a mini consultation where she filled out a protocol for me with the newly suggested products. I'm slowly easing them into my routine and I started using the Exfoliation accelerator (Glycogent) which was recommended for me for use on mornings.

Currently my skin is the smoothest, brightest and most supple it's ever been and I know it can only get better from here. I do hope to continue building my regime under the guidance of the team at the Skin Health Institute. I've learnt that skin care is an investment and it's more beneficial in the long run. I would easily recommend to anyone who is curious about trying these products or using products that are subpar, to give them a try. While these particular products mentioned work for me, other ones may be suggested for your skin's concerns so it's worth your while to go in to the SHI for a consult. Skin care is not one size fits all; it's tailored specifically for your concerns. Your skin is craving for a change #whywait?
