How to "love your lips" with this local gem

Updated: Jan 11, 2021

I'm sure that by now most of you know about Cedros Bay. If you genuinely don't know or need a refresher as to what this local brand is all about, then continue reading.

Cedros Bay is an all natural, vegan and cruelty free skincare brand that was developed in Trinidad and Tobago in 2019. They've coined the term "Clean Caribbean Beauty" as their goal has been to curate products that are free of harmful ingredients and environmentally sustainable; whilst making you feel like a Caribbean Goddess.

Cedros Bay is a brand that I've known since their start and I've grown to love and respect their ethos. I've admired that they ensure and promote inclusivity, so anyone that comes across their page can see themselves in the bloggers and influencers they work with. Working with the brand early in my blogging career has been such a fantastic experience, for which I would forever be grateful.

From producing body care products, to launching their first facial item, they've kept the ball rolling with their latest product launch - the "Love Your Lips" lip kit. This product was highly anticipated and they've managed to make its launch so special, especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic and all of its restrictions. Nonetheless, the lip kit is here!

Being someone with what seems to be THE most sensitive skin, I'm often scared but very cautious when trying any new skincare product. Luckily, it's been just over a year now and I've been using the Cedros Bay Coconut Scrub and Body Lotion with ease. I also tried the original Coconut lip balm with no irritation.

I opted out of trying their Charcoal face mask because if you've been following my blog and Instagram, you'd know that I had my fair share of facial skin issues over the past year. I was placed on a strict regime from my dermatologist and didn't want to complicate things with an additional facial product. However, I know many persons that have seen benefits from the Charcoal face mask.

I received the lip kit as a part of a PR package and couldn't wait to give the new items a try. The lip kit contains the original Coconut Lip Balm (a brand favourite), their new Watermelon lip balm and Coconut lip scrub. The "Caribbean Goddess" packaging is 100% recyclable and makes for a beautiful gift item; perfect for lippie lovers. It retails for $130TT and can be purchased via the Cedros Bay website. Each item in the kit can be purchased separately.

All Cedros Bay packaging (product containers and paper packaging) can be recycled at iCare bins around T&T. You can also choose to up-cycle them as storage in your home.

With the "new normal" during this pandemic, wearing face masks for as long as I do at the hospital, my lips have been more dry than they typically already are. So remembering lip care as a part of my self care routine has been crucial. My lips are one of my best physical features, so I always try to pay attention to them. Below, I've highlighted the ingredients in each item from the lip kit and my overall thoughts on them.

1. Coconut Lip Scrub

Ingredients: Sugar, Coconut Meal, Virgin Coconut oil, Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Peppermint Oil, Avocado oil, Jojoba oil and Papaya seed oil.

Price: $50TT

I love sugar scrubs for my body, so when I realized this kit contained a lip scrub, I was like "yesss". Exfoliation is such an important step with skincare. It removes dead skin cells and creates a healthy foundation upon which your products function effectively.

This scrub is super gentle but works really well to help my lips feel plump and look less dull - the perfect balance. The ingredients are packed with incredible benefits like UV protection, antioxidants to aid with repair, anti-aging and of course locking in moisture.

2. Watermelon Lip Balm

Ingredients: Virgin Coconut oil, Shea Butter, Natural Watermelon flavour, Avocado oil, Jojoba oil, Papaya seed oil, Vitamin E, Peppermint oil, Kaolinite (Rose Clay)

Price: $50TT

Watermelon flavoured anything is a pretty tough flavour to master, but I think Cedros Bay did a pretty good job. This lip balm is quite possibly their most fun product to date, because it's PINK! I mean, that's pretty cute right?

This balm adds a subtle sweet layer of moisture to the lips without feeling too greasy. It gives a light pink tint to the lips, but bear in mind that this may not be as noticeable if one has darker lips.

All in all, it provides a good layer of moisture. This lip balm is one I tend to use on those days when I want to really pamper my lips. I do have a go-to lip balm that I tend to reach for more often but having the option to switch things up, without irritation, is always fun.

3. Coconut Lip Balm

Ingredients: Coconut oil, Shea butter, Vitamin E, Jojoba oil, Peppermint oil, Sweet Almond oil, Avocado oil

Price: $45TT

Since its launch, this lip balm has been an absolute crowd fave. Although I haven't exactly used this lip balm for its main purpose, I found an awesome hack that works so well for me. Working at the hospital and washing my hands as often as I do, my cuticles get so dry.

So this has become my go-to cuticle oil. It really helps to restore moisture in my cuticles and my hands didn't look too much like a raisin #lol.
