GET THAT SUNKISSED GLOW
Some of my favourite tips and products to get you looking like a bronzed beauty!
I was happy to have the opportunity and time off back in August 2018 to visit the beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados. I had planned to have a photoshoot done and knew exactly the look I was going for...bronzed Caribbean goddess.
Golden hour is my favourite time of the day and I wanted the beauty of it to be captured. I'm a thalassophile (lover of the sea and ocean) and it seemed so fitting to have part of the photoshoot at the beach #myfaveplace. Fun fact: I did my own makeup that day and wanted it to be reminiscent of the hues of a beautiful Caribbean sunset.
Here's a breakdown of my look for the photoshoot and how my makeup stayed looking fresh for the entire evening! The products I used are attached for your knowing.
Step 1: A clean slate
Skin care is as important as the makeup you're gonna wear. I always prep my skin for any makeup look by properly cleansing, exfoliating and toning the skin. Ensure your skin is well hydrated, especially if you're going for a more dewy look.
Step 2: Apply primer
Because I have oily skin, I use a mattifying primer over the T-zone (heck sometimes over my entire face #facepalm) just to ensure that I have some longevity with my makeup; as oil on the skin can cause foundation and concealer to separate.
Step 3: Apply your base
I fell in love with the Make Up Forever brand after using their Ultra HD foundation #flawless. It's a foundation formulated for 4K technology so it photographs exceptionally well. I apply concealer and then set with powder. I do my brows and then I'm set for the magic that happens next.
Step 4: Bronzer, highlight and shimmery shadows
I apply bronzer on the perimeter of my face, so on the forehead, hollows of the cheekbones and along the jawline, essentially where the sun would kiss the skin on any given day.
I use highlighters on the high points of my face, particularly above the cheekbones and on the brow bones; I even put some on my collar bones. Keeping the shades in the golden/bronzey family, the eye shadows are no different here; all very golden with hints of brown to help intensify the look and make it more sultry.
Step 5: Set
I used the Urban Decay De-Slick makeup setting spray to help keep my makeup in place and matte.
I finished the look with my favourite lipstick shade (red of course) to add that extra pop and oomph! The end result was a bronzed 'beat face' a la Chantelle. Threw on my floral dress and some oversized gold earrings and I was all set! All in all I love how it turned out and the golden hue of golden hour just blended beautifully with the entire look #obsessed.
